摘要：A device and method for monitoring and/or assessing attention changes orlapses of a subject are described. The inventive device and method analyze the regularityof the period of a subject's cardiac cycle to detect a lapse or change of attention. When asubject is concentrating on a particular task or item the heart cycle exhibits strongregularity. But when attention to the task or item is interrupted or the subject's attentiondeclines, the regular periodicity of the heart cycle declines. In a preferred

implementation the heart cycle is detected by monitoring the subject's ECG waveformand performing cepstrum processing of the ECG data to determine a measure of R-waveregularity.
