1.Complete the following passage by using the sentences given below. Each sentences can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
Can just one person make a difference? You bet! In a community every person counts, and getting involved is not difficult. Take stock of your own talents and interests. ________ Don't wait for someone else to act first. Take the initiative! Once you see what you can accomplish, you'll want to keep going.
Here are just a few ways to make a difference in your community. How many more ways can you come up with?
Clean up the community. People often throw litter in places where there is already litter. And the problem only becomes worse until someone gets fed up and does something. Could your neighborhood use a cleanup? Neighborhood cleanups are often sponsored by local businesses or schools. But if your community doesn't have a cleanup program, get together with friends to organize one. You could pick up garbage in a larger area twice a year, or you could clean a smaller area every few months. ________
Include the isolated. Do you know anyone who is housebound? Almost all neighborhoods have a few people who have to stay at their homes. These people are often elderly and unable to leave their homes to perform simple tasks. ________ By letting them \"borrow\" your legs and eyes, you can make them feel included. You can run errands for them like shopping or paying bills. They might like you to read to them if their eyesight is failing. Governments provide some of the services these people need, but programs cannot give them friendship; that's what communities are for!
________ Reading clubs are popular all over Europe and North America. Members might read at home to prepare for discussion, or they might read aloud to each other and talk about what they just read. Either way, a book or article can spark lively discussion and this often challenges people to take action.
A. Cleaning your community will have a positive effect on others in society. B. They find a need or an issue you really care about. C. But they belong to the community, too.
D. Living in a clean neighborhood will be its own reward. E. Don't hesitate to take part in the community's activity. F. Round up some readers. 【答案】 B;D;C;F

Robert F. Kennedy once said that a country's GDP measures \"everything except that which makes life worthwhile. \"With Britain voting to leave the European Union, and GDP already predicted to slow as a result, it is now a timely moment to assess what he was referring to. The question of GDP and its usefulness has annoyed policymakers for over half a century. Many argue that it is a flawed(有缺陷的) concept. It measures things that do not matter and misses things that do. By most recent measures, the UK's GDP has been the envy of the Western world,
with record low unemployment and high growth figures. If everything was going so well, then why did over 17 million people vote for Brexit, despite the warnings about what it could do to their country's economic prospects.
A recent annual study of countries and their ability to convert growth into well-being sheds some light on that question. Across the 163 countries measured, the UK is one of the poorest performers in ensuring that economic growth is translated into meaningful improvements for its citizens. Rather than just focusing on GDP, over 40 different sets of criteria from health, education and civil society engagement have been measured to get a more rounded assessment of how countries are performing.
While all of these countries face their own challenges, there are a number of consistent themes. Yes, there has been a budding economic recovery since the 2008 global crash, but in key indicators in areas such as health and education, major economies have continued to decline. Yet this isn't the case with all countries. Some relatively poor European countries have seen huge improvements across measures including civil society, income equality and the environment. This is a lesson that rich countries can learn: When GDP is no longer regarded as the sole measure of a country's success, the world looks very different.
So, what Kennedy was referring to was that while GDP has been the most common method for measuring the economic activity of nations, as a measure, it is no longer enough. It does not include important factors such as environmental quality or education outcomes all things that contribute to a person's sense of well-being.
The sharp hit to growth predicted around the world and in the UK could lead to a decline in the everyday services we depend on for our well-being and for growth. But policymakers who refocus efforts on improving well-being instead of simply worrying about GDP figures could avoid the forecasted doom and may even see progress.

Fear of missing out
It's Friday night. While many of your friends may celebrate by going to the movies or checking out a restaurant that's just opened, you've decided to spend this highly cherished night of the week by yourself. The night is yours to enjoy. If you think this sounds relaxing, you're not alone. At least for a little while until you start wondering if you've made the right choice. A doubt begins sinking in as you imagine the fun your friends are having in your absence. Suddenly, the quiet evening you planned for yourself begins to lose its initial appeal, and you find your excitement quickly turns to anxiety.
Fear of missing out, or FOMO, is a common feeling. A recent study defined FOMO as “the uneasy and sometimes all-consuming feeling that you're missing out — your peers are doing or in possession of more or something better than you.
Fear of missing out often develops as a result of deeper unhappiness. Research has found that those with low levels of general life satisfaction are more likely to experience FOMO. Further worsening the all- too-common feeling is the rise of social media use. Active users of social media have a higher probability of comparing their achievements with others'. Rather than finding happiness through their own experiences, they begin worrying that theirs aren't objectively better than anyone else's.
The consequences of FOMO are significant and far-reaching. One study conducted with first-year university students found that fear of missing out was associated with fatigue(疲劳), stress, and sleep problems. Furthermore, in a 2018 study of 1,045 Americans aged 18-34, nearly 40% of participants admitted going into debt just to keep up with their friends' lifestyles, often through increased spending on food, travel, clothes, and electronics.
So how can you overcome the fear? Begin with gratitude. By reflecting on what you already have, you're less likely to put valuable mental energy in worrying about what you don't. Another
alternative?
Embrace(欣然接受) JOMO, or the joy of missing out. JOMO allows you to shift your focus to what you really want at any given moment, without feeling concerned about what those around you may be doing. So, turn off your phones and tablets, and engage in something you enjoy while resisting the urge to upload and share it. While this may take practice and perseverance(坚持不懈), the results are well worth the effort.
By embracing the joy of missing out, you make room for all the benefits that come from spending time with yourself and the inner wholeness you contain; you create space to keep up with the things you wish you had more time for — gardening, reading, resting, exercising, cooking, learning, or simply being; and you see yourself in new ways and unearth the talents, fears, joys and quirks that lie beneath the surface.
Fear of missing out Introduction to FOMO is a common fear that others might be having rewarding experiences FOMO from which you are ________. For example, initially, you enjoy spending a Friday night alone in your own way. However, thinking of your friends' possible fun, you begin to have ________ about your original decision, which makes you________. Causes of FOMO *People are not really happy and even feel ________with their life. *The use of social media may result in FOMO, especially when people make negative ________between themselves and others. Help Migrant Workers
There is nothing like going home. More so if it is for the Spring Festival family reunion. For a migrant worker it perhaps means even more. To be able to set out on a homeward journey with money from a year's toil in his pocket is the best thing he can think of. ________ They had to
press hard for their defaulted payments, the salaries that were failed to pay up.
About 200 million migrant workers nationwide are something left behind by economic reforms and opening up due to their contributions in the past three decades. It is almost impossible to imagine life in these places without them. However, they still form a disadvantaged group. Their rights are violated in different forms. Among other things, unpaid salaries are the most painful of such violations that are likely to drive a migrant worker to desperate actions. ________ ________They have taken measures to prevent employers from holding back payments to them. Yet, as the financial crisis bites deep, some small enterprises that are struck the most try to reduce their economic losses by laying off migrant workers or refusing to pay them. So it is particularly important for governments at all levels to do an even better job in helping villager-turned-workers recover their unpaid salaries before the Spring Festival.
It is good news that quite a number of local governments have organized special taskforces to conduct inspections in those labor-intensive enterprises to make sure they have paid their migrant workers in a timely and fair manner. Construction commissions in almost all provinces have published hotlines for farmer-turned-construction workers to lodge complaints against their employers for withholding their salaries. ________ But we need to look for solutions that will work at all times. We need to put in place a mechanism that will effectively prevent employers from holding back salaries to workers.
A. Some have reportedly climbed up chimneys to jump to their death unless they get their defaulted salaries.

The environmental group Heal the Bay organized a beach clean-up. And I was one of the volunteers. We went to Venice Beach to clean up the trash.
At first glance, the beach didn't look dirty at all. But then I saw a Styrofoam(泡沫)cup half buried in the sand on the beach. I pulled hard and finally got it out. As we moved farther, we found pieces of Styrofoam spread all over the sand. The Heal the Bay representative had told us that these little pieces of Styrofoam and other small pieces of plastic are what actually harm sea life most. Sea animals eat the plastic. After eating it, they think they are full. As a result, they can die of starvation as they are cheated by their feeling and don't think they need to eat any food. We kept on picking up the trash. Then I saw someone with a full Heal the Bay trash bag and I went to see what was inside. When I opened the trash bag, I found everything from a pair of old jeans and a brown belt to headphones and some plastic bags. It made me very angry with the people who left their things behind without thinking what effects they might have on the ocean. It is really important to protect the ocean. The ocean covers 70 percent of the Earth's surface. A clean ocean not only helps animals in the ocean survive but also helps us survive.
By noon, the sun was shining and the temperature was rising. The volunteers that had spread out across Venice Beach were coming back to throw the trash they had collected into the truck. I could not believe how much trash there was. All together we collected more than 135 bags of trash. I do hope that next time people go to the beach, they will stop littering. (1)Why did the environmental group go to Venice Beach? (No more than 6 words) (2)What does the underlined word \"starvation\" in Paragraph 2 mean in English?(1 word) (3)How did the author feel seeing the trash in that volunteer's trash bag according to Paragraph 3?(No more than 8 words)
(4)How much trash did the volunteer collect all together that day? (No more than 8 words) (5)What do you think of throwing plastic trash on the beach? And why? (No more than 25 words)
(1)To clean up the trash. (2)Hunger
(3)He/She felt very angry.
(4)They collected more than 135bags of trash.

When big news breaks, it's easy to get caught up in following the story online. The Internet can be a place to find useful information. ________ Helping kids understand the news and how to separate fact from fiction is an important job for parents and educators.
Here's some advice that parents can offer kids to help them be quicker to judge as they consume news online.
________ In the rush to cover stories, reporters make mistakes, officials don't always have correct information and tidbits (八卦新闻) that sound reasonable often get passed around before anyone has checked them for accuracy.
Use social media wisely. Some say Twitter is a great source of news in the first few minutes of a tragedy. ________ On the other hand, Facebook can be a great way to connect with friends affected by events in the news and to spread personal news within a more limited circle. Be skeptical. ________ After the Boston Marathon bombing, NBC Sports reported that some runners kept running all the way to the hospital to donate blood for the victims. Not true. There are plenty of websites devoted to exposing false news stories. The Washington Post also has a Fact Checker column that delivers claims made by public officials and politicians. Visit them to find out if a story is true.
Keep it age-appropriate. Kids aren't always ready to digest big, tragic news - especially if the news is about kids, such as school shootings or abuses. The constant repetition of information can be confusing for younger kids, and at the beginning of a news event, parents might not be able to offer any correct answers. ________ A. Remember, breaking news is often wrong. B. It also can be the source of misinformation.
C. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. D. Make sure you and your kids aren't falling victim to false news. E. However, after that it just becomes messy and largely inaccurate. F. With social media at your fingertips, it's convenient to express your opinion.

“Urgent action required”, “Do you still want to hear from us?”, “We've updated our privacy policy”, “Should we stop sending you updates? If not, act now!”
Many of us will have received emails like this during the past few weeks. Triggering this flood of emails is something called GDPR that comes into effect in just under two weeks' time. Often the emails warn that if you don't respond, you will be removed from the company's database, which raises a lot of questions. What action, if any, do you need to take? Could it affect you financially? GDPR, which stands for General Data Protection Regulation, has been described as the biggest overhaul(彻底检查)of online privacy since the birth of the internet. It is designed to give all EU citizens the right to know what data is stored on them and to have it deleted, plus protect them from privacy breaches(破坏). It comes into effect on 25 May.
The new rules encourage the requirement for explicit and informed consent before data is processed. As a result, companies and organizations around the world are contacting users to check they are happy to carry on receiving their emails.
However, many of us seem to be going down with “GDPR fatigue(厌倦)”: one article last week claimed that the “reconfirmation rate” - the proportion of people saying they want to continue receiving a company's emails - at UK micro-businesses was averaging just 10%, which meant “they could lose 90% of their subscribers - the life-blood for their business”. So it's no wonder some firms have adopted policies such as offering to enter people into a prize draw in return for them going in and updating their communication preferences.
The average adult is said to have about 100 “data relationships” — companies and organizations that hold our personal data. Meanwhile, the reason why the company that occasionally emails you newsletters is now asking for your consent is perhaps because you never explicitly gave it permission to send you stuff. Maybe you only get its emails because you went to an event it organized ages ago or you once downloaded something from its website. Under the new regime, that almost certainly wouldn't count as explicit and informed consent, hence it's getting in touch now.
The bottom line is that if it is a company or organization that you want to continue hearing from, you should probably click the button or log in to ensure you keep getting its emails. If it doesn't hear from you, it may decide to take you off its database. Passage outline Supporting details ◆ They flood into our lives. The influences of junk mails ◆ They________ to remove us from certain databases. ◆ They cause receivers to be________ about the possible risks. unintentionally/unpurposely/indeliberately/undesignedly/unconsciously
根据第二段中的“Often the emails warn that if you don't respond, you will be removed from the company's database”,根据该句可知,垃圾邮件威胁要将我们从公司数据库中删除。 threaten to do固定短语,“威胁要做某事”,故填threaten。
(2)考查推理判断,根据第二段中的“What action, if any, do you need to take? Could it affect you financially?” 该空在系动词之后,应填形容词“担心的”作表语,故填concerned/worried/anxious。
根据第三段中的“It is designed to…”
根据第三段中的“It is designed to give all EU citizens the right to know what data is stored on them and to have it deleted”可知,GDPR的目的之一就是给所有欧盟公民了解哪些数据可以储存,哪些数据可以删除的权利,故该空填right。
该空做require的宾语,故应填名词,答案为protection(保护)/respect(尊重)。
该空在定冠词the之后,故填名词,答案为response(s)(回应)/reaction(s)(反应)。 根据第五段中的“the proportion of people saying they want to continue receiving a company's emails - at UK micro-businesses was averaging just 10%, which meant they could lose 90% of their subscribers - the life-blood for their business”可知,大部分人都不愿意
;
根据倒数第三段中的“So it's no wonder some firms have adopted policies such as offering to enter people into a prize draw in return for them going in and updating their communication preferences”可知,有一些公司会采纳一些,例如:如果人们进入,公司会给人们提供一个奖品。故该空应填名词prize/bonus(奖)。
根据倒数第二段中的“the company that occasionally emails you newsletters is now asking for your consent is perhaps because you never explicitly gave it permission to send you stuff ”可知,因为你从未明确的允许某个公司给你寄送东西,所有,这个公司现在给你发电子邮件寻求你的许可。该空做receive的宾语,故应填名词,因此答案为consent/permission/approval/agreement(许可,同意)。
根据倒数第二段中的“…you never explicitly gave it permission to send you stuff. Maybe you only get its emails because you went to an event it organized ages ago or you once downloaded something from its website”可知,或许,你只是数年前参加过某公司组织的活动,或者你曾经从该公司的网站上下载了某些东西,你就收到了它的邮件。
10.Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. Decades of research has demonstrated how junior employees benefit from being mentored (指导). Guidance from senior colleagues has also been shown to enhance mentees' job performance and satisfaction.________
We were especially interested in understanding how mentoring might help mentors who work in stressful occupations. Mental health is a growing concern within occupations that play important social roles, such as medical professionals, firefighters, and police officers. And because policing is one of the most stressful occupations, with high levels of mental health and well-being difficulties, we conducted a study of a formal mentoring program in an English police force.
________ It was designed to support the development of junior officers by giving them a way to discuss concerns and receive guidance. Our study involved two parts. First, we conducted a field experiment: we compared the mental health of 17 mentor-mentee pairs to a control group of 18 pairs of senior and junior officers that did not participate in the program. Second, we interviewed both the mentees and their mentors separately.
Our experiment results showed that people who served as mentors experienced lower levels of anxiety, and described their job as more meaningful, than those who did not mentor. We learned from our interviews that mentoring afforded senior officers, as well as junior officers, a chance to
discuss and reflect on concerns. ________By acknowledging that these anxieties were common, both mentees and mentors grew more comfortable in discussing them and in sharing different coping mechanisms.
Why does mentoring have this impact on mentors? ________ Despite the pressures that comes with their roles — including abuse, difficult decision making, and the risk of death — police officers tend not to seek support from other officers, including more senior colleagues. This is to avoid negative stigma, a shameful reputation, associated with mental health disorders. Mentoring thereby offered a way to build trust within a relationship that laid a foundation for open and honest communication of sensitive topics.
A. We believe it offers a way to receive support that is often lacking.
B. The mentoring program was launched in 2013 in one of the police forces in England and Wales. C. Formal mentoring programs provide an opportunity to encourage the discussion of difficult and sensitive topics.
D. However, what we are wondering is why mentoring has such great impact on mentors as well as mentees.
E. Mentors heard their mentees' accounts of anxiety and realized these feelings — which they also shared — were common.
F. We know far less, however, about how mentoring might benefit mentors themselves. 【答案】 F;B;E;A
根据空前\"Decades of research has demonstrated how junior employees benefit from being mentored (指导). Guidance from senior colleagues has also been shown to enhance mentees' job performance and satisfaction. \"可知,几十年的研究已经证明了初级员工如何从被指导中获益。来自资深同事的指导也被证明可以提高学员的工作表现和满意度。所以小题1要与前面的句子形成转折关系,以此来表明自己的观点。 F. We know far less, however, about how mentoring might benefit mentors themselves.
根据空前\"And because policing is one of the most stressful occupations, with high levels of mental health and well-being difficulties, we conducted a study of a formal mentoring program in an English police force.\"可知,由于巡务是压力最大的职业之一,心理健康和幸福方面的困难程度很高,我们对英国警方的一个正式辅导项目进行了研究。 B. The mentoring program was launched in 2013 in one of the police forces in England and Wales.
根据空后\"By acknowledging that these anxieties were common, both mentees and mentors grew more comfortable in discussing them and in sharing different coping mechanisms.\"通过承认这些焦虑是普遍存在的,学员和导师在讨论这些问题和分享不同的应对机制时都变得更加自在。 E. Mentors heard their mentees'
accounts of anxiety and realized these feelings — which they also shared — were common.
根据空前\"Why does mentoring have this impact on mentors?\"可知,为什么辅导对导师有这样的影响? A. We believe it offers a way to receive support that is often lacking. 故选A。
11.Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
Life on a Ship
We three children were very excited when we walked up the gangway (舷梯) of the British flagship China Star and saw officers, crew and staff rushing around. A Chinese housekeeper led the way and helped Uncle Jean and Aunt Reine with our luggage. Victor, Claudine and I lagged behind. The housekeeper was tall and thin and towered over everyone. ________ As we followed him down a narrow corridor towards our cabins, Victor whispered to me, \"One thing about having no hair at all on your head, you always look neat!\"
Though I was still feeling nervous and tongue-tied because it had only been three days since Aunt Reine took me out of St. Joseph's, I laughed out loud. That was the effect Victor had on people. ________ \"Boys to the right and girls to the left,\" said Uncle Jean. Our two cabins were directly opposite each other. Inside, everything was neat, bare and clean. While Aunt Reine, Claudine and I were unpacking, there was a knock on the door.
Victor stood there, wearing a bright-red and orange life-jacket. \"Why are you wearing that?\" Claudine protested. \"Our ship hasn't even sailed yet!\" \"In case the China Star starts going down. Then you'll really be sorry you're not wearing one yourself. Here! Let me show you something!\" ________ Our cabin was below deck. Outside we could see nothing but deep dark water. Claudine became alarmed. \"Mama, how often does a ship sink?\" she asked. Before Aunt Reine had time to reply, Victor quipped with a straight face, \"Only once!\" Aunt Reine and I could not help laughing in spite of ourselves. But then Victor did something my brothers would never have done. He took off his life-jacket, slipped it on his sister and showed her how to adjust the straps. ________ At night, our housekeeper brought in a tiny roll-out bed because there were three of us. A. Once Victor hid in a lifeboat for half an hour while we searched everywhere. B. His head was completely hairless, and he was obviously unsteady. C. He and Claudine made me feel at ease as soon as I met them.
D. There were only two narrow twin beds in our cabin, each covered with dark blue sheets. E. He parted the curtain and looked out of the round window of the ship.
F. He jumped out as we passed below him, scaring and delighting us at the same time.
根据空前“ The housekeeper was tall and thin and towered over everyone. ”是对管家外表的介绍:又高又瘦;以及空后\"One thing about having no hair at all on your head\"可知,管家(the housekeeper)没有头发。
根据空前“ Though I was still feeling nervous and tongue-tied because it had only been three days since Aunt Reine took me out of St. Joseph's, I laughed out loud. That was the effect Victor had on people. ”尽管作者仍然感到有点紧张,但是听了Victor说的话之后,也情不自禁地哈哈大笑。这就是Victor对他人的影响力。该空承接前文,仍然要提到作者的同伴带给他的感受, C. He and Claudine made me feel at ease as soon as I met them. “我一见到Victor和Claudine,他们就使我感到很舒服。”符合语境,古训啊C。
(3)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空前Victor要让Claudine和作者看点东西。下句提到他们看到外面深而暗的水。那么该空就应该叙述Victor为了让他的同伴看到外面而做的举动, E. He parted the curtain and looked out of the round window of the ship. “他打开窗帘,向窗外看去。”承接上文,符合语境,故选E。
(4)考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。根据空后“ At night, our housekeeper brought in a tiny roll-out bed because there were three of us. ”因为我们有三个人,所以管家拿来一张床。那么,前句应该提到床的问题, D. There were only two narrow twin beds in our cabin, each covered with dark blue sheets. “我们的小屋里只有两张窄的双人床,每一张都覆盖着深蓝色的床单。”承接下文,符合语境,故选D。
【点评】本题要求在理解细节信息的基础上,着重考查对上下文的理解和推理判断能力。
12.Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. College graduation eventually means taking much of your attention in your first job search. This process can be challenging, especially for those students who had thought very carefully about their chosen major and their potential career path—or those who majored in a field not directly connected to a specific career he eventually got. If you are in one of these groups, fear not! ________ Some majors are tied directly to specific career fields. For example, if you wish to become a teacher, you will likely have needed to complete an education program and eventually sit for a licensing exam. The same applies to majors in nursing. If you did not complete an acceptable nursing program, you won't be able to take the nursing licensing exam. ________ Other majors, however, are closely related to career paths but don't necessarily require a degree in the area. For example, students who majored in finance, math, or statistics may also have the necessary skills to be hired as an accountant.
Hopefully, as a college student, you were able to do more than just attend classes and read your course books. Your non-academic experiences can be very influential on your future career as well. Did you work during college, volunteer, or participate in a club or organization? ________ If you volunteered with a non-profit organization such as a homeless or domestic
violence shelter, seek out positions in social services related to case management or victim advocacy. You may qualify for a position regardless of your major.
Although it often seems like your college major alone determines your career fate, this just isn't the case. ________ If you don't know what career options to consider based on your major, talk to your faculty or academic advisor. You may be surprised at what opportunities await! A. If so, and if you enjoyed these activities, seek out related careers.
B. In these cases, successfully completing a specific major is crucial to landing a job in the matching field.
C. Graduating from a university with an excellent major and practical ability will surely make you more competitive.
D. It may influence it, but there are other factors that influence your career options as well. E. The more you learn about workforce market, the better you'll know the importance of a desired major.
F. Although your major and coursework are relevant to landing a job, they are not the only deciding factors. 【答案】 F;B;A;D
根据空前“ This process can be challenging, especially for those students who had thought very carefully about their chosen major and their potential career path—or those who majored in a field not directly connected to a specific career he eventually got. If you are in one of these groups, fear not! ”找工作是个挑战,尤其对于那些所学的专业与他最终要做的职业没有直接联系的学生。如果你是这些团体中的一员,不要害怕,可知对于这样的一群人来说不害怕是因为\"所学的专业和课程并不是唯一的找工作的决定因素\", F. Although your major and coursework are relevant to landing a job, they are not the only deciding factors. “尽管你的专业和课程与找工作有关,但它们并不是唯一的决定因素”符合题意,故选F。
(2)考查对上下文的理解及推理判断能力。根据空前\"Some majors are tied directly to specific career fields.\"可知,有些专业直接与特定的职业领域联系在一起。以及“ If you did not complete an acceptable nursing program, you won't be able to take the nursing licensing exam. ”如果没有护理专业的无法参加护理许可考试。在这种情况下,成功完成某个专业对于找到相匹配领域的工作至关重要\", B. In these cases, successfully completing a specific major is crucial to landing a job in the matching field. “在这些情况下,成功完成某个专业对于在匹配领域找到工作至关重要”与此段的意义也是一致的。可知B项符合题意,故选B。
(3)考查对上下文的理解及推理判断能力。前面两段内容\"然而,其他专业与选择的职业密切相关,但不一定需要该领域的学位。你的非学术经历也会对你未来的职业生涯产生很大影响,如志愿者活动等。如果喜欢这些活动的话,可寻找与之相关的职业。\" A. If so,
and if you enjoyed these activities, seek out related careers. “如果是这样,如果你喜欢这些活动,寻找与之相关的职业”符合题意,故选A。
(4)考查对上下文的理解及推理判断能力。根据空前“ Although it often seems like your college major alone determines your career fate, this just isn't the case. ”\"虽然看起来你的大学专业似乎决定你的职业命运,但事实并非如此。\"根据转折连词although可知,与你的专业无关的其他因素也会影响你的职业选择的。 D. It may influence it, but there are other factors that influence your career options as well. “它可能会影响你的职业选择,但也有其他因素会影响你的职业选择”符合题意,故选D。

13.阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
Some recent surveys show that the health conditions of many white collar employees and office workers are rather critical. Death cases among white collar employees and office workers are increasing year by year and these cases are generally believed to have been caused by overwork and spending little time taking rest or doing exercise.
If their offices are within the distance of half an hour's walk, some office workers now choose to go to work on foot. Ms. Deng, who works in a foreign enterprise in Beijing, has been walking to her office for more than six months now. I usually have a tight work schedule and can't find time to do exercise. So I choose to walk to work. As she said, if the office is not far from home, most women would like to go to work on foot. Walking is good for their health and can help them to keep good figures as well.
Apart from walking to office, one can also find time to do exercise when one is at work. The simplest way is to abandon the lift. Mr. Wei, who works in the Passenger Service Department at Shenzhen Airlines, is one of such men who frequently climb stairs to his office. I only use the lift whenever I'm with my colleagues or my boss. Otherwise, I would climb stairs instead of taking the lift.
In addition, some office workers try to find time to go to a gym at the end of a day. Ms. Sang works in a law firm in Shenzhen. She goes to the gym several times a week when she has the time. I go to the gym every weekend. During the weekdays, I will also go there whenever I have the time. Ms. Sang and her husband both have a gym membership card for a whole year. The cards cost them 3, 000 yuan. However they think it's worth it.
(1)What is the best title of the passage? (No more than 8 words)
(2)How many ways that office workers keep healthy are mentioned in the passage and what are they? (No more than 15 words)
(3)What does the underlined \"abandon\" mean? (No more than 2 words)
(4)Why are death cases among white collar employees and office workers increasing year by year? (No more than 12 words)
(5)As a student, which is the best way of keeping fit? (No more than 20 words) 【答案】 (1)Office Workers Try to Keep Healthy.
(2)Three. They are walking to office, abandoning the lift and going to a gym.
(3)Stop using.
(4)Because they overwork and spend little time taking rest or doing exercise. (5)I think that students can jog during the break.
根据第一段中的“some office workers now choose to go to work on foot. ”及“The simple way is to abandon the lift. 和some office workers try to find time to go to gym at the end of a day. ”可知总共三项及其的内容,故用Three. 锻炼方式包括步行上班,爬楼梯和去健身。故答案为:They are walking to office, abandoning the lift and going to a gym。
根据第三段中的“Apart from walking to office, one can also find time to do exercise when one is at work.”
根据第一段中的“generally believed to have been caused by overwork and spend little time taking rest or doing exercise. ”可知白领工作人员没有时间锻炼及过度劳累导致死亡增多,故用Because they overwork for a longtime/Because they are too busy to have time for a rest。
I think that students can do exercise during the break。
