The summer I was ten, my mother decided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles(风格).most as bad as being in school. Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool? First we had to read about ancient Egyptians(古埃及人) and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly (鬈曲的) hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I certainly couldn't see what was so great about art.
On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it, a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother' s expression how happy she was just to be
with the child. I couldn't stop looking at this painting ! I wanted to see every painting Mary had ever made! It was really worth looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.
24. The aim of the mother' s plan was to _________. A. take them to visit the museum C. ask them to read about artists
B. introduce them to the world of art D. show them different painting styles
25. What was the writer' s experience in the museum before the last visit? A. She came to feel her mother' s love. B. She liked many paintings. C. She hardly enjoyed herself.
D. She could understand the pictures of fat babies.
26. What made the writer go through a change that summer? A. One of Mary's paintings. B. A strange way of painting. C. Artists in the Middle Ages. D. Her mother' s instruction.
27. From the text, we can see _________. A. the importance of curiosity B. the effect of art
C. the value of learning D. the power of family education
C
The year 2009 is the Year of Ox. The ox is a representative of the fanning culture of China. In the farming economy (经济), oxen are the major animals pulling plows (犁).
Of course, the good of oxen is not limited to plowing. In fact, they are seen as \"boats on land\" for their ability to carry loads. Besides, the whole body of an ox is full of treasures. Their meat and milk are food full of nutrition, and their skin can be used to make clothes and shoes. With all these qualities, oxen are regarded as generous creatures.
In the past, oxen played an important role in the spiritual life of the Chinese. Even today, oxen still play a special part in some folk activities. For example, some people wholive in southwest China will cook cattle bone soup and share it among family members when holding the ceremony for children who reach 13. They believe that the cattle bone soup represents the blood relationship among family members. In order to express their love for oxen, people in some other areas will run to shake off diseases on the 16th day of the first month by the lunar calendar (农历), and during their run they will take their oxen along, which indicates they regard the creature as human.
Because of the contribution of oxen in their lives, the Chinese people are very grateful to the animal. In addition, the use of oxen in ceremonies and the thanks people owe to oxen help to develop various traditional customs, which becomes an important part of the folk culture of the Chinese nation. 28. From the third paragraph, we know that _______.
A. oxen are no more important today than in the past B. ceremonies are held when people cook cattle bone soup C. oxen are treated as human in some areas of China D. people run with oxen to shake off diseases every month 29. Which of the following helps to develop traditional customs?
A. The special role of oxen in frowning. B. People’s respect and love for oxen. C. The practical value of an ox’s body. D. The contribution of oxen to the economy. 30. Why does the author write the text?
A. To stress the importance of oxen in farming. B. To introduce the Chinese folk culture. C. To describe how to celebrate the Year of Ox. D. To explain how to develop agriculture with oxen.

How Can I Fight Laziness? Lazy people will never gain anything in life.
However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.
31 . Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. 32 .
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. 33 . Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. 34 . Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated(积极的) people. 35 .Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits. A.Knowing how to fight laziness is important. B.To fight family laziness, set an example.
C.Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness. D.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
E. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child. F. Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your own mind.
G. With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day Robert and Henry were going home from school, when, on turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with(插手) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me. ”
“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual. But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behavior, because he learned that true courage is shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled, and screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did not even try to help him.

21-23 CBC 24-27 BCAB 28-30 CBB 31-35DFEBC
37. A。从语境看,这里意思是说:我们正要(be about to)…,这时(when)…。
40. A /41. C。
42. B。这里 See = Let’s see。
43. C。注意搭配 make sth clear (表明清楚),原句中 it 的是形式宾语,其真正的宾语是后面的(that) the boy who does so will get a useful reward.
44. D。这里的 do so 是指前面提到的 to find it(the watch)。
47. B / 48. B。此处的语境是:Jim“捡”起手表,然后(the next moment) 就满面笑容地(all smiles)跑到史密斯太太面前,将表交给(turning in)了她。
49. A /50.C。这里请注意 however(但是), in fact(事实上),angry(生气的)等这些关键性的语境词。
Let’s make it clear the boy who does so will get a useful reward.
. A。 55. D。subject 在这里指 the dangers of smoking 这个“主题”。

第一节:66.provided /supplied67.January 68. Thursday69. visitors/tourists70 Internet 第二节: Dear Ms Li,
I am very happy to have you as our English teacher.
As the world is becoming a global village, English is getting more and more
important, so mastering English means we can see the world through a new window. My English is just OK and the two main problems in my study are that I feel it difficult to learn words by heart, and that I often feel nervous when speaking English. I really hope that you can give me good advice on how to memorize new words. Thank you!
Yours, Li Hua.
Robert was fast sinking. It seemed as if Robert would be drowned. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time.By great effort, and with much
danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Thus, Robert’s life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behavior and asked for his forgiveness. Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.

Now I’m going to tell you something about my experience of taking the video ten years ago. (17) It was 2:00 in the afternoon. When I entered the classroom, I was surprised to see a video camera. (18) Our class teacher was operating the camera, (17) and my classmates were all talking among themselves quietly. Most of us had never been in front of a video camera before, so we were quite nervous. As for myself, I had once faced one at home. My uncle was shooting when we were celebrating my sister’s birthday. (19) But this was completely different. We had to talk about our articles as if we were reading the news on TV. The funny thing was that every time I tried to face the camera and talk about my article, I forgot the article and had to keep looking down at it. (20) It was a completely different experience for me, thanks to our class teacher.
