DESCRIPTION

TheST662isanICdevelopedtoprovidea12Vregulatedoutput30mAfromvoltageinputaslowas4.75withoutanyinductors.Itisusefulforawiderangeofapplicationsanditsperformancesmakesitidealforflashmemoryprogrammingsupply.

Anevaluationkitisprovidedtofacilitatetheapplication.Thisincludeasingle-sidedemoboarddesignedforsurface-mountcomponents.TheoperatingprincipleofST662(seefig.1)istochargeC1andC2capacitorbyclosingtheS1switch(whileS2isopened)attheVCCvoltage.AfterS1willbeopenedandS2closedsothatC1andC2capacitorsareplacedinseriesonetoeachother,andbothareinserieswithVin.ThesumofVC1andVC2andVinisappliedtothecapacitorC4.Thisworksasvoltagetripler.Anamplifiererrorcheckstheoutputvoltageandblockstheoscillatoriftheoutputvoltageisgreaterthan12V.

TheshutdownpinisinternallypulledtoVCC.Whenitisheldlowtheoutputvoltagerisesto+12V.Fig.2showsthetransitiontimeoftheshutdownpinwhentheVSHDNgoesfrom5Vto0V.InputlogiclevelsofthisinputareCMOScompatible.

Applyingalogichighatthisinput,theVOUToscillatorwillbeblockedandtheVOUTwillreachtheVINvaluebyD1.InthisconditionICCwillbeFigure2:ExitingShutdown

APPLICATIONCIRCUIT

Basedonfastcharge/dischargeofcapacitors,thiscircuitinvolveshighdi/dtvalueslimitedonlybyRonofswitches.Thisimpliesacriticallayoutdesignduetotheneedtominimizeinductivepathsandplacecapacitorsascloseaspossibletothedevice.

Agoodlayoutdesignisstronglyrecommendedfornoisereason.Forbestperformance,useveryshortconnectionstothecapacitorsandthevaluesshownintable1.Figure4:KITLay-out

C3andC4musthavelowESRinordertominimizetheoutputripple.Theirvaluescanbereducedto2µFand1µF,respectively,whenusingceramiccapacitors,butmustbeof10µForlargerifaluminiumelectrolyticarechosen.

C5mustbeplacedasclosetothedeviceaspossibleandcouldbeomittedifverylowoutputnoiseperformancearenotrequired.

differentcapacitors,eachofthemofhalfvalue,veryclosetotherespectiveintegratedcircuit.Fig.8showtheOutputCurrentcapabilityoftheproposedcircuit.

Ifanoutputvoltagegreaterthan12Visrequired,it’spossibletorealizethecircuitofthefollowingdiagram(figure7).TherelevantOutputCurrentcapabilityisshowninfigure9inwhichisshowntheoutputvoltagevsloadcurrent.
